Subject: Status report on Yak of the Himalayas
Dear Sir
This is with reference to our earlier discussions regarding status of yaks and plans for a better future for them in the Himalayas. The following are my findings and recommendations :
As you may be aware, currently, yaks are limited to the upperlands of the Himalayas. But the area of their habitat is shrinking at an alarming rate.
We will also empathise with the plight of yaks. They are facing a loss of their habitat and increased danger of poaching from humans. There is every likelihood that a day will come when yak will be an extinct species like Dodo.
I want to request you to take proper steps to improve the ground situation. Certain area can be earmarked as reserve area for yaks. Local people should be educated about the problem and taken into confidence. You will agree with me that people participation is important for the success of such programmes. The reserve area should be manned with people with relevant skills to implement the protection programme as per plan.
As yaks are facing a real danger to their existence, a concrete conservation programme needs to be chalked out in the Himalayan region. Apart from that other suitable areas should be discovered for expansion of yak population. As the most advanced species of this planet this is the responsibility of humans to take care of other living creatures of this planet. Anmol Saxena (Conservationist)

Carbon Footprint - Project Work
A carbon footprint is a representation of the effect human activities have on the climate in terms of the total amount of greenhouse gases produced (measured in units of carbon dioxide). So, it is a measure of the impact we make individually on the earth; by the choices we make regarding our lifestyle. Many activities generate carbon emissions, which contribute towards accelerating global warming and climate change.
Total carbon footprint/ emission quantification would include energy emissions from human activities - such as, from heat, light, power and refrigeration and all transport related emissions from cars, freight and distribution.
By measuring the carbon footprint through such tools as carbon calculators, we can get a better sense of what the individual impact is and which parts of our lifestyle deserve strict regulation.
In groups, choose and research any one aspect of how we are leaving carbon footprints and how can we modify our lifestyle. Each group will then make a project on the various aspects.

Study the following graph and the accompanying report.
Our study of the time spent by students at the computer and studying at home in three countries has revealed some interesting facts.
First, the majority of boys and girls in the age groups of 14-16 in these countries spend more time at the computer than studying at home. Children in these countries spend an average of20-30 hours per week in comparison to 10-15 hours of studying at home. The only exception is Burland where girls spend more time studying at home than at the computer.
Secondly it is evident that in all three countries, time spent at the computer is having a serious impact on the number of hours spent studying at home. In fact, the greater the number of hours spent at the computer, the fewer number of hours are being spent studying. For example, boys in Burland spend an average of 32 hours at the computer while they spend about 8 hours studying at home.

As you’re very interested in Raghu and his snakes, I thought I’d tell you about a conversation I heard between him and Sheela.
He told her he thought one of his snakes had escaped and, as usual, she told him to stop collecting them because they were dangerous. (Typical of Sheela, don’t you think?)

WORDS DENOTING TIME AND POSITION
When the reporting verb is in the past tense, certain words denoting nearness of
time and place are changed into words denoting distance.
It is treated necessary to change the words denoting nearness to words denoting
distance because, when we report the words of a person to somebody, the place
and time of the reporting is changed.
So the reported speech must be in line with the modified time and place.
