Akbar’s nine gems (Navaratnas) were Abul Fazl, Raja Todar Mal, Abdul Rahim Khan-i-Khana, Raja Birbal, Mulla-Do-Piyaza, Faizi, Fakir Aziao-Din, Tansen and Raja Man Singh, distinguished respectively as historian, revenue minister, noble, witty courtier, jester, poet-laureate, mystic, musician and trusted general, credited with political, cultural and administrative contributions to Akbar’s reign.
