Solution

From the 1960s onwards, India adopted several measures to achieve development. It promoted industrialisation, land reforms, irrigation and agricultural growth. The government introduced Five Year Plans, encouraged the public sector and followed the policy of self-reliance. From the 1980s, changes were made to improve economic performance. After 1991, India introduced liberalisation, privatisation and globalisation, giving a greater role to the private sector. In the 21st century, development has also focused on social justice, participation, empowerment and sustainable development, along with better education, health care and basic services.
