Why did Rudyard Kipling dislike being interviewed? Give two reasons.

• Invasion of Privacy and Morality: Kipling believed that an interview was an immoral act and a ‘crime’. He viewed it as an unwarranted ‘assault’ on his person, much like a physical attack, and felt it merited punishment.
• Cowardly and Lack of Respectability: He characterised interviewing as a cowardly and vile act. In his view, no ‘respectable man’ would ever ask for an interview, let alone agree to give one.
