Her behaviour puzzles her class teacher who approaches the school counsellor. The school counsellor conducts an individual test of intelligence on Ananya.

(i) The counsellor will most likely use the Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children (WISC) to assess individual intelligence. The WISC evaluates both verbal and nonverbal ability in children aged 6 to 16. It is widely used in schools to assess giftedness, learning challenges, and behavioral issues.

(ii) Verbal Subtest - Similarities
This subtest asks children to explain how two things are similar. For example, “How are a cat and a dog alike?” It measures abstract thinking, verbal reasoning, and concept generation.

• Performance Subtest 1 - Block Design
  Children are given colored blocks and shown designs to recreate under a set time restriction. It measures visual-spatial capabilities, problem-solving abilities, and motor coordination.
• Performance Subtest 2 - Picture Arrangement
  Children are encouraged to arrange photographs in a logical order to make a story. The test measures a child’s knowledge of social settings, sequential reasoning, and planning abilities.
