A scooter travels 120 km in 3 hours and a train travels 120 km in 2 hours. Find the ratio of their speeds.

Solution

We know that,

Speed = `"Distance"/"Time"`

∴ The speed of the scooter = `(120  km)/(3  "hours") = (40  km)/"hour"`

And the speed of the train = `(120  km)/(2  "hours") = (60  km)/"hour"`

Thus, the required ratio = `"Speed of the scooter"/"Speed of the train"`

= `((40  km)/"hour")/((60  km)/"hour")`

= `2/3`

= 2 : 3
