Given: A rectangular plot 32 m long and 20 m wide; grass is to be planted leaving 1.5 m all around.

Step-wise calculation:

1. Border left on each side = 1.5 m.

So, total reduction in length = 2 × 1.5 = 3 m and in width = 2 × 1.5 = 3 m.

2. Grass-covered length

= 32 – 3

= 29 m

3. Grass-covered width

= 20 – 3

= 17 m

4. Area covered with grass

= 29 × 17

= 493 m2

The area covered with grass is 493 m2.
