A man can open a nut by applying a force of 75 kgf by using a lever of handle 0.5 m. What should belength of the lever of another handle, if the force required to open the nut is 45 kgf?

Solution

The work done to open the nut in both cases is same.

∴ Work done by the lever in case (ii) = work done by lever in case (i)

Effort × Effort arm in case (ii) = effort × effort arm in case (i)

45 kg × Effort arm in case (ii) = 75 kgf × 0.5 m

∴ Effort arm in case (ii) \[=\frac{75 \times 0.5}{45}\]

= 0.83 m
