Solution

a. i. When an object is placed between the optical centre and the focus of a converging lens, the image formed is virtual, erect and magnified, as shown in the figure.

 

a. ii. When an object is placed anywhere between the optical centre and infinity of a converging lens, the image formed is virtual, erect, and diminished, as shown in the figure.

b. Converging Lens: The virtual image is magnified (larger) than the object and is formed on the same side of the lens as the object.

Diverging Lens: The virtual image is diminished (smaller) than the object and is formed between the optical centre and the focal point on the same side of the object.
