Solution

Given,

Initial velocity (u) = 0 (starts from rest)

Final velocity (v) = 24 m s–1

Time (t) = 6 s

According to the first kinematic equation,

v = u + at

or

a = `(v - u)/t`

Substituting, we get,

`a = (24 - 0)/6 = 4` m s–2

Hence, average acceleration = 4 m s–2

For the distance travelled, using the second kinematic equation,

s = ut + `1/2` at2

Substituting, we get,

s = (0 × 6) + `1/2 xx 4 xx (6)^2`

= `1/2 xx 4 xx 36`

= 72 m

Hence, the distance travelled in 6 s is 72 m.
