Solution

Given dimensions of rectangular lawn = 10 m × 4 m and width of flower bed = 50 cm

Length of remaining portion,

EF = AB – (50 × 2 cm)

= 10 m – 100 cm  ...`[∵ 1  cm = 1/100 m]`

= 10 m – 1 m

= 9 m

Breadth of remaining portion,

EH = AD – 50 cm

= 4 m – 0.5 m

= 3.5 m

∴ Required area = Area of portion EFGH

= EF × EH

= 9 × 3.5

= 31.5 m2
