उत्तर

Photograph   Image in a Plane Mirror
A photograph is made when a real image is projected on a photographic film. The image formed by a plane mirror is virtual and cannot be taken on a photograph.
The image is smaller in size compared to the actual object. The image is the same size as the object.

Which property of light makes a pencil cast a shadow when it is held in front of a light source?

Where is the image when you look at something in a mirror?

With the help of a labelled ray-diagram, describe how a plane mirror forms an image of a point source of light placed in front of it. State the characteristics of the image formed in a plane mirror.

The image of an object formed by a plane mirror is:

(a) virtual
(b) real
(c) diminished
(d) upside-down

State two effects caused by the refraction of light.

Name the phenomenon due to which a swimming pool appears less deep than it really is.

State whether the following statement is true or false:
Refraction occurs because light slows down in denser materials.

A ray of light travelling in air is incident on a rectangular glass block and emerges out into the air from the opposite face. Draw a labelled ray diagram to show the completer path of this ray of light. Mark the two points where the refraction of light takes place. What can you say about the final direction of ray of light?

Light travels at a lower speed in water than in air.

Water is optically .......... than air.

Draw a diagram showing the refraction of a light ray from water to glass. Label on it the incident ray, the angle of incidence (/), and the angle of refraction (r)

A ray of light passes from medium 1 to medium 2. Which of the following quantities of the refracted ray will differ from that of the incident ray: Speed, intensity, frequency, wavelength?

Choose the correct option from given alternative:
A real image is formed by the light rays after reflection or refraction when they:
(A) actually meet or intersect with each other.
(B) actually converge at a point
(C) appear to meet when they are produced in the backward direction.
(D) appear to diverge from a point.
Which of the above statements are correct?

Light changes its direction when going from one transparent medium to another transparent medium. This is called _______.

State whether true or false. If false, correct the statement.

The angle of deviation depends on the refractive index of the glass.

The deviation of light ray from its path when it travels from one transparent medium to another transparent medium is called ______.

In the above diagram light is travelling through different media. It is noted by a scientist that ∠1= ∠3 = ∠4 but ∠2 < ∠1. Which of the following statement would be correct?

Noor, a young student, was trying to demonstrate some properties of light in her Science project work. She kept ‘X’ inside the box (as shown in the figure) and with the help of a laser pointer made light rays pass through the holes on one side of the box. She had a small butter-paper screen to see the spots of light being cast as they emerged.

Her friend noted the following observations from this demonstration:

  1. Glass is optically rarer than air.
  2. Air and glass allow light to pass through them with the same velocity.
  3. Air is optically rarer than glass.
  4. Speed of light through a denser medium is faster than that of a rarer medium.
  5. The ratio: sin of angle of incidence in the first medium to the ratio of sin of angle of refraction in the second medium, gives the refractive index of the second material with respect to the first one.

Which one of the combinations of the above statements given below is correct.

Under what circumstances there won’t be any refraction of light when it enters from one medium to another?

A ray of light starting from diamond is incident on the interface separating diamond and water. Draw a labelled ray diagram to show. the refraction of light in this case.
