- When aqueous sodium sulphate reacts with aqueous barium chloride, a white, insoluble precipitate of barium sulphate forms, along with a solution of sodium chloride.
- \[\ce{Na2SO4_{(aq)} + BaCl2_{(aq)} -> BaSO4_{(s)} + 2NaCl_{(aq)}}\]
- The reaction will not take place when sodium sulphate and barium chloride are in the solid (dry) state, because ions are not free to move and exchange.
