उत्तर
A chemical reaction in which two compounds in their aqueous state exchange their ions to form new compounds is called a double decomposition reaction.
Examples:
- When barium chloride solution reacts with sodium sulphate solution, a white precipitate of barium sulphate and a soluble salt, sodium chloride, are obtained.
\[\ce{\underset{chloride]}{\underset{[barium]}{BaCl2_{(aq)}}} + \underset{[Sodium sulphate]}{Na2SO4_{(aq)}} -> \underset{[Barium sulphate]}{BaSO4 \downarrow} + \underset{[Sodium chloride]}{2NaCl_{(aq)}}}\] - Zinc oxide, a base, reacts with nitric acid to form a salt, zinc nitrate. and water.
\[\ce{\underset{[Zinc oxide]}{ZnO_{(s)}} + \underset{[Nitric acid]}{2HNO3_{(aq)}} + \underset{[Water]}{H2O}}\]
