Definition: Factorial Notation

If n is a positive integer, then the continued product of the first n natural numbers is called the factorial n, to be denoted by n! or |n|.

i.e., n! = n(n − 1)(n − 2) … 3 × 2 × 1

  • 0! = 1
  • n! = n(n − 1)!
  • If x! = y! ⇒ x = y (for x, y ≥ 0)
