उत्तर
When the body comes back to its starting point, its resultant displacement is zero. It is because it has covered a certain distance in due course of time; however, there is no difference between the initial and final positions.

Is displacement a scalar quantity?
Figure given below shows a velocity-time graph for a car starting from rest. The graph has three parts AB, BC and CD.

Compare the distance travelled in part BC with the distance travelled in part AB.
From the displacement – time graph shown given below calculate:
- Average velocity in the first three seconds.
- Displacement from the initial position at the end of 13 s.
- Time after which the body is at the initial position,
- Average velocity after 8 s.

Can distance covered by a body be less than the magnitude of its displacement?
Write the SI units for measurement of distance and displacement.
Displacement / Time : Velocity :: Speed / Time : ______.
