प्रश्न
The density of water is 1.0 g Cm-3. The density of iron is 7.8 × 10″3 g Cm-3. The density of mercury is 13.6 g Cm-3.
Ans the following:
Will a piece of iron float or sink in water?

उत्तर
Density of water = 1.0 g/cm3
Density of iron = 7.8 × 103 g/cm3 = 7800 g/cm3 (which is much greater than 1.0 g/cm3)
Since iron is much denser than water, A piece of iron will sink in water.

Two spheres A and B, each of volume 100 cm3 is placed on water (density = 1.0 g cm−3). The sphere A is made of wood of density 0.3 g cm−3 and sphere B is made of iron of density 8.9 g cm−3.

A body will sink if the weight of the body is greater than the buoyant force.
Consider the statement given below and choose the correct option.
Assertion: Water strider slides easily on the surface of the water.
Reason: Water strider experiences less buoyant force.
