Salsette Island is a large island located on the west coast of India in the state of Maharashtra, and it ranks as the 14th most populous island in the world.
The southern part of the island includes Mumbai, while the northern part lies within the Thane district and features the Borivali National Park, recognised as the biggest national park in the world located within city limits. Originally comprising several smaller islands, it is now a unified landmass.
Geographically, the island features a hilly landscape with its highest point reaching about 450 metres inside the national park. It is situated in an earthquake-prone region and features numerous scenic beaches along its coastal areas.
