Solution

Investigating what happens when a compound copper carbonate is heated. When green copper carbonate{CuCO3} is heated it decomposes forming copper oxide {CuO} and carbon dioxide {CO2}.

 \[\ce{\underset{\text{Green}}{CuCO3(s)} ->[Heat] \underset{\text{Black}}{CuO(s) + CO2(g)}}\]
