Solution

(x – 1)2 = 2x + 3

(a − b)= a2 − 2ab + b2

∴ x2 − 2 × x × 1 + 12 = 2x + 3

∴ x2 − 2x + 1 = 2x + 3

∴ x2 − 2x − 2x + 1 − 3 = 0

∴ 1x2 − 4x − 2 = 0

∴ 1x2 + (−4)x + (−2) = 0

Comparing the above equation with ax2 + bx + c = 0, we get

a = 1, b = −4, c = −2
