Sum

Solution

Given expression: x(3x – 11) + 6 = 3x2 – 11x + 6

We have to find two numbers whose sum is –11 and whose product is 18.

These numbers are –9 and –2.

Now, using middle term factorisation method,

3x2 – 11x + 6

= 3x2 – 9x – 2x + 6

= 3x(x – 3) – (2x – 3)

= (x – 3) (3x – 2)

The factorisation result is (x – 3) (3x – 2).
