Solution

a1 = a2 = 2.... (given)

and an = an−1 −1, n > 2

Putting n = 3, 4, 5,

a3 = a2 − 1 = 2 − 1 = 1

a4 = a3 − 1 = 1 − 1 = 0

a5 = a4 − 1 = 0 − 1 = −1

Hence, the five terms of the sequence are 2, 2, 1, 0 and −1.

Corresponding series = 2 + 2 + 1 + 0 + (−1)
