Component of population change.

Population distribution is uneven in the world. The physical factors and human factors influence the population distribution. Adverse physical conditions and lack of sufficient opportunities for means of livelihood are mainly responsible for discouraging inhabitation in certain areas. People of one region differ from others.

1. People can be distinguished by their age, sex and their place of residence.
2. Some of the other distinguished attributes of the population are occupation, education and life expectancy.
3. The population growth or population change refers to the change in number of inhabitants of a territory during a specific period or time.
4. This change may be positive or negative.

There are three components of population change. They are:

1. Crude Birth Rate: The number of live births per thousand people is known as the CBR.
2. Crude Death Rate: CDR is expressed in terms of number of deaths in a particular year per thousand of population. Population growth occurs not only by increasing birth rate but also due to decreasing death rate.
3. Migration: The movement of the people from one geographical region to other geographical region is known as migration. Population change due to migration, e.g. the population of Mumbai change because of the migration. Mumbai act as the pull factor.
