Effect of relief on population distribution

Answer 1

1. Population is densely distributed on flat plains and gentle slopes.
2. This is because such areas are favourable for the production of crops. 
3. It is easier to build roads and develop industries in these areas. 
4. The mountainous and hilly areas tend to be less populated.
5. If means of livelihood are available, population can be concentrated in few such areas e.g. Dehradun, Leh, etc. 
6. Thus, it can be concluded that plateaus or mountainous areas are less populated than plains.
