Solution

Dr A.P.J. Abdul Kalam was one of India’s most respected scientists and a much-loved teacher. Born in 1931 in Rameswaram, Tamil Nadu, he grew up in a modest family. As a child, he helped support his family by distributing newspapers while continuing his studies. His hard work and curiosity led him to study aeronautical engineering.

Kalam made important contributions to India’s space and defence programmes. At the Indian Space Research Organisation, he played a key role in developing the SLV-III, India’s first satellite launch vehicle to successfully place a satellite in orbit. He later helped advance the country’s missile programme, earning him the popular title “Missile Man of India.” He also encouraged the use of science and technology to improve education, healthcare and rural development.

His journey was not without difficulties. He faced financial hardship as a young student and experienced setbacks in his scientific work. The early failure of the SLV-III launch was a major disappointment, but his team learned from it and later succeeded. Kalam believed that failure was a step towards achievement.

He became the President of India in 2002 and continued inspiring young people. His life teaches us that perseverance, learning and service can turn challenges into great achievements.
