Solution
Diversity in Plants
Plants are found in different parts of the world and show a great variety in their size, shape, colour, structure and way of growth. This variety is called diversity in plants.
Plants can be classified into different groups. Herbs are small plants with soft stems, such as mint and coriander. Shrubs are medium-sized plants with woody stems, such as roses and hibiscus. Trees are tall plants with strong and thick stems, such as mango and neem. Some plants have weak stems and need support to grow. These are called climbers, such as grapevine and money plant. Plants like pumpkin and watermelon spread along the ground and are called creepers.
Plants also differ in their leaves, flowers, fruits and roots. Some plants have colourful and fragrant flowers, while others have small or no flowers. Some plants grow on land, while others, such as lotus and water hyacinth, grow in water. Cactus plants can survive in deserts, while many other plants grow in forests and wet areas.
Thus, plants show great diversity and are found in almost every habitat. They are very important because they provide us with food, oxygen, medicines, wood and shelter and help maintain the balance of nature.
