Visit Raigad Fort: The capital of the Maratha Empire!
- How to reach there?

- By Rail: The nearest railway station is Mangoan (about 30 km away) on the Konkan Railway route, from where you can take a local taxi or bus.
- By Air: The nearest airports are in Mumbai and Pune.
- Accommodation facilities:
- MTDC Resort: Located right on top of the fort, offering clean cottages and standard rooms.
- Local Homestays and Lodges: Available in the base village (Pachad), offering authentic Maharashtrian hospitality and delicious local cuisine.
- What to see and visit?/Attractions of the place
- The Maha Darwaja: The main, massive entrance of the fort, beautifully flanked by two huge bastions.
- Raj Sabha (The Grand Court): The historical site where Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj’s coronation took place. It features a spectacular statue of the great king.
- Takmak Tok (Punishment Point): A thrilling 1,200-foot-tall vertical cliff from where convicts were thrown off in ancient times. It offers a panoramic view of the deep valleys.
- The Samadhi of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj: A peaceful and sacred memorial place where the great king was laid to rest.
- Places of interest nearby
- Gandharpale Caves: Located near Mahad (approx. 25 km away), these are a group of 30 ancient Buddhist rock-cut caves.
- Jagadishwar Temple: A beautiful, historic stone temple dedicated to Lord Shiva, located right on the fort complex itself.
- Pachad Village: Located at the base of the fort, home to the ruins of the palace of Rajmata Jijau (Shivaji Maharaj’s mother).
- Best time to visit
- September to March (Winter & Post-Monsoon): This is the ideal time to visit as the weather is cool and pleasant for climbing and exploring the expansive fort.
