Solution
Families can be classified into two types: joint families and nuclear families. In a joint family, children live with their parents and other relatives, which facilitates faster socialization and the sharing of responsibilities. Emotional bonds are strong, though conflicts may sometimes arise. In a nuclear family, parents and children live together, and parents play a major role in shaping their children’s personalities by providing them with full attention.
Parenting styles greatly influence the development of a child’s personality and social behaviour. Permissive and authoritarian parenting may negatively affect children, making them dependent or emotionally detached. However, authoritative parenting encourages independence, self-reliance and good social skills. Thus, family and parents play a vital role in the overall development and socialization of a child.
