The Thomas Cup, also known as the World Men’s Team Championship, was first held in 1948–49. It is named after Sir George Alan Thomas of England. Initially, the tournament took place every three years. Since 1982, it has been held every two years with a format of three singles and two doubles matches. Starting in 1984, the Thomas Cup and the Uber Cup have been held together.
