Solution
The Strong Interest Inventory has undergone several updates and name changes over the decades. In 1974, David S. Campbell, the successor of E.K. Strong, revised the test and renamed it the Strong-Campbell Interest Inventory. Later, in 1997, the test was again updated and became known as the Strong Interest Inventory, a name that continued with its latest version released in 2005.
This revised version is a self-assessment tool used by career counselors and professionals to help individuals, such as high school and college students as well as adults, explore their interests. The insights gained from this test assist users in making informed decisions about their educational paths and career choices.
The inventory includes 291 items that ask users about their likes and preferences related to school subjects, occupations, activities, leisure interests, people, and personal traits. It usually takes 30 to 45 minutes to complete. For more accurate career planning, this tool is best used alongside other assessments like values, personality, and skills inventories, as well as through informal exploration of potential job options.
