Solution
Representative Fraction (R.F.), also known as Numerical Fraction, is a method for representing the scale of a map. It is defined as the ratio of a distance on a map to its corresponding distance on the ground, using the same unit of measurement for both.
R.F. = `("Map distance")/("Ground distance")`
The numerator is always 1, and the unit used in the numerator and denominator must be the same. For example, if the R.F. of a map is `1/(1,00,000)` or 1 : 1,00,000, it means 1 cm on the map equals 1,00,000 cm (or 1 km) on the ground.
