Solution

Intelligence Quotient (I.Q.) is a numerical expression that indicates the relationship between a person’s mental age (M.A.) and chronological age (C.A.). It is calculated using the formula:

I.Q. = `"Mental Age (M.A.)"/"Chronological Age (C.A.)" xx 100`

An I.Q. of 100 represents average intelligence. If a person’s mental age is higher than their chronological age, the I.Q. will be above 100, indicating above-average intelligence. Conversely, if the mental age is lower, the I.Q. falls below 100, indicating below-average intelligence.

I.Q. helps classify levels of intelligence, from gifted (I.Q. above 130) to mentally challenged (I.Q. below 70), and plays a significant role in educational and occupational placement. Although I.Q. remains relatively constant over time, environmental and genetic factors influence intellectual development. Standardized intelligence tests like the Stanford-Binet and Wechsler Scales are used to determine I.Q.
