Solution
Netaji Subhas National Institute of Sports, widely known as the National Institute of Sports (NIS), is the academic arm of the Sports Authority of India (SAI) and is regarded as Asia’s largest sports institute, situated in Patiala. It was inaugurated on 7 May 1961 by Dr. K. L. Shrimali, who was the Union Education Minister at the time. In January 1973, on the occasion of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose’s 76th birth anniversary, the institute was renamed as the “Netaji Subhas National Institute of Sports.”
The primary role of NSNIS is to encourage and develop sports in India while training and producing highly skilled coaches. It also offers sports scholarships, such as the Sports Talent Search Scholarship Scheme, for various groups, including (10 + 2) school students, college and university students, participants in national women’s championships, and research scholars pursuing programs like Ph.D., M.Phil., and the MS Diploma in sports coaching.
