They could also result in feelings of invincibility and euphoria.

Narcotic analgesics' effects: Athletes run the risk of suffering additional, potentially irreversible damage to their muscles and ligaments, which could spell the end of their career because these drugs mask the pain that follows an injury.

In addition to being addictive, narcotic analgesics can cause the following side effects:

1. Loss of balance and coordination
2. Nausea and vomiting
3. Loss of sleep and depression
