Solution

  1. Saudi Arabia, Iran, India, and Western Australia all have huge hydrocarbon reserves that are being exploited offshore. The Indian Ocean accounts for around 40% of global offshore oil production.
  2. The beach sands along the Arabian Sea shore are rich in precious minerals such as uranium, thorium, and radium. Bordering countries, particularly India, South Africa, Indonesia, and Sri Lanka, utilise beach sands rich in heavy minerals as well as offshore reserves.
  3. The Indian Ocean’s Abyssal lowlands have polymetallic nodule formations. These nodules contain nickel, copper, manganese, and cobalt.
