Solution

Hybridization is the method of producing new crop varieties by crossing two or more plants with different genetic makeup. It is used to combine desirable traits from different plants to improve yield, disease resistance, and other qualities. Types include intravarietal (within the same variety), intervarietal (between varieties of the same species), interspecific (between different species), and intergeneric (between different genera) hybridization. The process involves selecting parents, emasculation (removing stamens from the female parent), bagging to avoid contamination, crossing, and raising the hybrid generation (F1). Hybridization leads to hybrid vigor, or heterosis, where hybrids are superior to parents in growth and productivity.
