Compressed Biogas (CBG) is biogas that has been purified by removing impurities like hydrogen sulphide, carbon dioxide, and water vapour and then compressed. It has a methane content of more than 90%, giving it calorific value and properties similar to Compressed Natural Gas (CNG). This makes CBG a green, renewable automotive fuel. Efforts are underway to increase CBG production and usage, including mandatory blending of CBG with CNG and PNG for households starting from 2025-26, aiming to reduce dependence on natural gas imports.
