Solution

Causa Proxima (proximate cause) is the insurance principle that liability is determined by the nearest, direct, dominant cause of loss, rather than remote or antecedent causes. The insurer pays only for insured perils if they are the proximate cause; e.g., sea‑water damage is compensable though rat puncture was antecedent. It usually does not apply to life insurance.
