Solution

The statistical criterion is a method used to define what is considered normal or abnormal behavior based on how frequently it occurs in the population. According to this approach, behaviors that are common or occur in most people are seen as normal, while behaviors that are rare or unusual are considered abnormal.

This method uses statistical tools like the normal distribution curve to identify what falls within the average range. For example, in an intelligence test, most people score around the average, and very high or very low scores are seen as statistically abnormal.

However, this criterion has limitations. Not all rare behaviors are negative (like genius), and not all common behaviors are healthy. So, while the statistical criterion is useful for measuring certain traits, it may not fully explain the complexity of mental health or abnormal behavior.
