Solution
Freud recognized that dream interpretation was a valuable tool in psychoanalysis for uncovering unconscious, repressed desires. He believed that dreams often reflect inner conflicts and hidden urges in disguised forms. Referring to dreams as the “royal road to the unconscious,” Freud emphasized their importance in revealing suppressed emotions and motivations. During sleep, the ego’s defense mechanisms are weakened, allowing these repressed desires to surface, often symbolically. By analyzing these symbols, therapists can identify underlying issues and wishes. Additionally, everyday slips like saying the wrong word, writing errors, or accidental remarks can also reveal unconscious thoughts and serve as useful clues in psychoanalytic therapy.
