Solution

  1. Climate: Cotton requires a warm climate with temperatures between 21°C to 30°C. It needs a long frost-free period and bright sunshine during growth. Rainfall should be moderate, around 50–100 cm. Excessive rain is harmful, especially during the flowering and boll-opening stages.
  2. Soil: Well-drained black soil (Regur soil) is ideal as it retains moisture and is rich in lime, iron, potash, and magnesium. Cotton also grows in alluvial soils in some areas.
  3. Topography: Cotton thrives in flat or gently sloping land suitable for mechanized farming.
  4. Growing Season: It is mainly a Kharif crop, sown in June–July and harvested in October–March.
