Solution
In 1961, the Netaji Subhas National Institute of Sports in Patiala started training sports coaches. Academic courses were later established in Bangalore, Calcutta, and Gandhinagar. In 1958, the third Asian Games were held in Tokyo, with India having a very poor performance, particularly in hockey. The All India Council of Sports recommended that the Raj Kumari Amrit Kaur Scheme be abolished and a National Institute of Sports be established in Patiala to enhance athletic performance. On Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose’s 76th birth anniversary, the institute was renamed ‘Netaji Subhash National Institute of Sports.’
