Question

Why is temperature co-efficient of resistance negative for semiconductor?

Short/Brief Note

Solution

With the increase in temperature, the concentration of charge carriers (electrons and holes) increases. As more charge carriers are made available, the conductivity of a pure semiconductor increases i.e. resistivity of a pure semiconductor decreases with the rise in temperature i.e. semiconductors have a negative temperature coefficient of resistance.
