The war in the Pacific was brought to an end in 1945 because the United States dropped atomic bombs on the Japanese cities of Hiroshima 6th August and on 9 August, another on Nagasaki. These devastating attacks forced Japan to surrender on 15th August, 1945, ending World War II in the Pacific.
