Wildlife sanctuaries are protected areas where wild animals/fauna can take refuge without being hunted and it is important to conserve wildlife because : -

  1. It maintains genetic diversity of all the present species and varieties.
  2. It maintains viable populations of native species, subspecies and varieties.
  3. It maintains resilience in species/habitats/ecosystems to adapt to environmental changes.
  4. It checks human aided introduction of exotic species.
  5. It stabilises and stimulates growth of threatened species.
  6. It maintains balance in the ecosystem.
  7. Wildlife is needed for breeding programmes in agriculture, horticulture, sericulture, apiculture, etc.
