Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was the founding leader of Bangladesh and is regarded as the “Father of the Nation”. He played a key role in the country’s struggle for independence from Pakistan. He led the Awami League and was instrumental in the Bangladesh Liberation War of 1971. After Bangladesh's independence, he became the country's first prime minister and later its president. He was assassinated in 1975.
