Rani Lakshmibai of Jhansi was one of the bravest heroines of India’s First War of Independence in 1857. She fought courageously against the British forces to protect her kingdom and resist British rule. She laid down her life at Gwalior while fighting the British.

She is remembered as a symbol of courage, patriotism and sacrifice. The Laxmibai National Institute of Physical Education, Gwalior, is named after her as a tribute to her bravery and glorious role in India’s freedom struggle.
