Three different kinds of telescopes exist in orbit around the planet:
- Optical refracting telescope
- Optical Reflecting Telescope
- Radio telescope
Before reaching the Earth's surface, radio waves and visible light from celestial bodies in space travel through the atmosphere. The atmosphere absorbs some light during this trip. As a result, less light reaches the surface of the Earth. In addition, air pressure and temperature are the causes of atmospheric turbulence. As a result, light beams alter their direction, which causes the image of a celestial body to shift. The use of optical telescopes on Earth is likewise restricted by intense sunlight during the day and city lights at night. Optical telescopes are located atop mountains, far from populated areas, to reduce these issues. Nevertheless, atmospheric limitations continue to exist.
