Cell division is the process by which a cell develops from an already-existing cell. One of the major ideas of the cell theory is this. A parent cell divides to create new daughter cells during cell division. When body cells split during mitosis, growth and repair take place in multicellular organisms. Meiosis is the process by which cells in reproductive organs divide to create gametes.
