Solution
Xerophytes are found in arid and semi‑arid places, especially arid and semi‑arid habitats such as hot and cold deserts, dry steppes and scrublands, coastal dunes and rocky outcrops; they also occur in Mediterranean-type dry summer climates and in some cold, snow‑covered polar or alpine areas where water is unavailable, for example near oases, river margins in deserts, and on dry slopes. Xerophytic species such as cacti, succulents, acacias, and many scrub plants exhibit adaptations, including deep roots, water‑storing stems, reduced or leathery leaves, and spines, that allow them to persist in these dry environments.
